SILVERSTONE - BRITCAR 24 HOUR
This weekend was a special one for me as it was the weekend of my 17th birthday but I was also trading in the grids of the Dunlop Sport Maxx for the very impressive grids of the Britcar Silverstone 24hour. I managed to secure a seat in an Audi TT Touring car which was brilliant fun and a great bunch of guys on the team which is obviously important because you spend about a week together in total over the build up to the race so you have to get on.
I was third driver in the car so I would enter the car and go straight out into the darkness. At the start off the race there was an almighty crash literally as the race started. It was under safety car before they made it to the first bend. This stuffed everybody’s strategies a small bit because the safety car was out for so long the first driver did a 3 hour stint. We were making good progress in the race we were 3rd in class at half way and towards the morning when I jumped back in the car I managed to claw us up to 2nd in the class standings which was brilliant until it all started to go wrong. At about 6.30 in the morning we had to make a 20 minute pitstop to change a coil pack that had gone and after that I went back out and then about half an hour later it went very wrong all the temperatures started rising so I returned to the pits as a final resort and that was it. Game over. The engine had had it and it had taken the turbo as well so that was us out of the race which was a real shame as we were doing so well. But now at least me and the team have learnt from our mistakes and now know how to approach it next year.
