It was time. We had finally arrived at Thruxton. I had done all of about 20 laps of the circuit some six months ago so I just about knew where I was going, and it didn’t help that there was no Friday testing so it was straight out into a wet qualifying.
I was struggling quite a bit with the brakes because every time I thought about braking they had already locked up and I was hurtling towards the wall. I managed to keep it on the track and even though I was sure that I wasn’t going to be quick I managed to get 2nd on the grid. In the second qualifying session it had dried up in the braking zones so I could push the car and myself a lot harder which seemed to work as I secured pole by 0.5 seconds.
For race one I managed to get a good start and jump into the lead straight away and managed to hold onto it for the whole race despite having one on the Class A Nissan 350 Z’s holding me up and almost losing me the position.
In the second race it was pretty much the same story I managed to lead from the start and pull a big lead after the 2nd place car made a few mistakes and then after a perfect pit stop I managed to extend that lead over my rival, Quentin to 13 seconds after something went wrong in his pit stop.
So in the end I came away from a circuit I had never raced at with two wins for the team which was perfect. Just hope I can do it at Rockingham where I will hopefully win the championship.
