Race Diary

2007

2008

Saturday 8th September

After a few weeks of not being in the car here we all were again at Oulton Park for the eighth and ninth round of the series.

In first qualifying I was finding it so hard to find the pace and put in fast times, I was pushing everywhere to try and squeeze that extra little bit out of the car and get a quicker time but nothing worked and I came in after qualifying eighth which was my worst position yet.

For race one I wasn't sure if the car magically got the pace back like it sometimes does but whatever happened I was going to have to push myself and the car to the limit to finish well.

On the first lap the grid lost five cars going into the first corner which funnily enough caused a red flag straight away. And for the second restart into the first corner a few cars had contact including me which caused my front left wheel to flap around and send the car all over the place. I managed to drive it like that for about a lap and then another red flag but this time it was for a real reason. One of my previous championship rivals Sam Schofield was hit in the passenger side at over a hundred miles an hour as his car sat stationary in the middle of the track after suffering a blow out in one of his tyres. That race was abandoned and Sam was ok in the end but the car looked like it had been hit by a train.

For race two again I had qualified poorly and got seventh position again. But this time we were running with air in the tyres instead of nitrogen which is the only thing we could think of that we had changed recently.

And again into the first corner and amazingly everyone made it through. As the race went on I found myself climbing up the grid until I got to fourth place snatching it as Aaron and I drove all the way down the start finish line with our wing mirrors interlocked and slipping down the inside going in Old Hall. Unfortunately the leaders had gone to far ahead to catch so there was nothing I could have done.

But until the next and final race at brands hatch I'm going to hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
