Saturday 18th August

Here we were again. After seven weeks without any racing we were back at Silverstone for the seventh round of the series and the pressure was on me to do well and maintain my championship lead.

After a day of testing on the Friday things were looking good as I had been one of the fastest all day long. And again things were looking good on the Saturday as I was second quickest in morning free practice, but it all changed when qualifying came.

After leaving the pit lane straight away I could feel that the car was a bit different and was under steering a bit more than usual and it was rapidly affecting my lap times and I pushed as hard as I could but just couldnn't go any quicker and ended up seventh on the grid. Once qualifying was over the team looked over the car only to find that some bearings had broken on the rear axle which caused both wheels to have 11mm of toe-in on them which would slow the car down a massive amount, but it was no good knowing it then because qualifying was done and I couldn't change it.

For the race we all lined up in the assembly area getting ready to exit onto the grid and just out of nowhere the heavens opened and rain started to flood the track, so immediately the entire grid shot back to their teams who were waiting for them with wheels and ready to sort out the suspension to the wet set-ups.

Once we had made it onto the grid you could see straight away that it was wet from the warm up laps and this was going to be a hairy race. As the lights wet off the whole grid slowly accelerated down towards the first corner and most of the grid at this point could not see more than about three metres in front of their own cars and immediately cars started flying all over the place after two corners and, well it was pretty much the same for the rest of the race. And in that race we lost about fifteen cars so you can imagine what it was like just from that information.

After crossing the line not having any idea where I had finished all the cars were directed to Parc Freme where I found out that I had finished sixth which isn't that bad but not good enough.

And I still hold the lead of the championship by 14 points.
